Parents of future Slater Student Athletes
Athletics at Slater Middle School are deeply rooted in tradition. We are known for being competitive in every sport that we play and recently have been winning numerous team and individual league titles.
However, winning isn’t the only focus of athletics here at Slater. The main reason athletic participation is encouraged here is so students can lift their self-esteem, change their lives, and create lasting memories.
Below is listed a few bits of information that will help prepare you if you plan on being a Slater Spartan athlete next school year.
Requirements for participation:
- Athletic packet filled out completely ~ turned in ONLINE
- A Sports Physical performed after June 1. The summer prior to the school year starting. *(may not try out unless physical is turned in)
- Proof of insurance
- Emergency card
- Parent permission of transportation
- Santa Rosa City School athletic agreement form
- Grade Point Average above a 2.0 for the previous quarter & during the season.
If suspended for any reason an athlete is not eligible to participate in sports for 20 school days.
If you have any other questions please feel free to call and ask.
In order to offer a quality interscholastic athletic program, HSMS would appreciate your consideration of a $20 donation per sport.

Sports @ Slater
Athletics play an important part at Herbert Slater Middle School.
Students can try out and participate in many sports. Boys and Girls can try out for basketball and wrestling. Cross Country in the fall and Track in the Spring are available for all students. Girls can also try out for Volleyball.
Every student needs to have a physical before trying out. Physicals dated after June 1 are good for one year. Sports Packets are available in the main office.
